ACTIVITY WEEKEND FOR YOUNG PEOPLE A SUCCESS (04/04/22) Young people from Hailsham enjoyed a range of recreational activities at the PGL Centre in Windmill Hill last weekend, an event organised by Hailsham Youth Service. A group of 32 young people packed in as many activities as they could during their weekend stay at the centre, including climbing, challenge courses, raft-building, fencing, archery and various sports, as well as a quiz night and problem-solving/team-building skills. “I know that those young people who attended the PGL Activity Weekend enjoyed it tremendously and, like with all outings we organise, staff members were present to ensure their safety and well-being at all times,” said Simeon Brown, Deputy Youth Service Manager at Hailsham Town Council. "Young people got over their fear of heights and built their confidence, accomplishing many things during the activity weekend." "Through organising such activities, young people are provided with opportunities to make new friends and develop a broad range of team-building skills that will help create a strong foundation for their future." “I would encourage them to take advantage of the outings and activities that we have scheduled for the Friday Night Project in the coming months and get involved."

The Friday Night Project (FNP), which is funded by Hailsham Town Council and the Safer Wealden Partnership, works in partnership with organisations such as Hailsham Community College, Sussex Police and Knockhatch to help create alternative recreational activities for young people on Friday evenings and will continue to be a feature on their social events calendar throughout the year. Town Clerk John Harrison commented: "Young people always look forward to Friday evenings and various weekend outings which make up the Friday Night Project and are always keen to take advantage of the many opportunities being offered by our youth project team." "It is a great achievement that Hailsham Town Council, Hailsham Youth Service and project partners have come together to give young people an opportunity to engage in really exciting recreational activities." The next Windmill Hill PGL Activity Weekend is scheduled to take place in the spring of next year. Young people aged between 11 and 17 years are welcome to attend outings organised by Hailsham Youth Service.
